This is a gorgeous hand-painted Italian ceramic jug.  The hand painted design is 'Ricco Deruta', an ancient design from Deruta, reflecting influences of the days of the Silk Road and trade with the East..  

On the base of the jar the artist has inscribed by hand the where the jar has been made and painted.  'MOD' stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' and beside it is 'Deruta' followed by 'Dip. A Mano', which translates from Italian to 'Painted by Hand'.

The jar measures 140mm in height and and 140mm in diameter.  The volumetric capacity of the jug is 1 litre.
