This is a gorgeous hand-painted Italian ceramic Biscotti jar with lid. The design 'Papaveri' which is Italian for 'Poppies'. This design features hundreds of red poppies painted in a yellow backround, with the poppies at the base of the jar large with foliage and then becoming smaller and smaller towards the top of the jar. The label 'Biscotti' on the front of the jar features prominently on a scroll banner. On each side there is a lion's head with a ring below it and the artist has detailed eyes and eye lashes on each head. The lid features a matching design and has a convenient handle on top. A light blue band defines the edges of the design.
On the base of the jar the artist has inscribed by hand the where the jar has been made and painted. 'MOD' stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' and below it is 'Deruta, Italy' followed by 'Dip. A Mano', which translates from Italian to 'Painted by Hand'.
