This is a gorgeous hand-painted Italian ceramic Biscotti jar with lid.  The design is the medieval 'Raffaelesque' which features a design of dragons with finely painted embellishments in blue on a white background. The label 'Biscotti' on the front of the jar features prominently. On each side there is a lion's head with a ring below it and the artist has detailed eyes and eye lashes on each head.  The lid features a matching design and has a convenient handle on top.

On the base of the jar the artist has inscribed by hand the where the jar has been made and painted.  'MOD' stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' and below it is 'Deruta, Italy' followed by 'Dip. A Mano', which translates from Italian to 'Painted by Hand'.
